Pre-prosthetic surgery is a procedure used to prepare patients for the insertion of a denture (prosthetic arch of teeth). At Central Mass Oral Surgery, our oral surgeons perform a variety of treatments to prepare patients for dentures. Drs. Colarusso and Baran have two convenient locations to perform pre-prosthetic procedures in Leominster, MA, and Gardner, MA.
Our office staff can assist you with scheduling a consultation to design a treatment plan tailored to your oral health. This appointment will allow Dr. Colarusso or Dr. Baran to determine the correct oral procedure needed to maintain a long-lasting smile. Dentures are the most common type of prosthetic device used to replace many missing or damaged teeth, especially in a full-arch restoration combined with the use of dental implants. Contact either of our offices to schedule your oral exam and consultation at Central Mass Oral Surgery.
Do I need pre-prosthetic surgery?
Many patients receive a pre-prosthetic operation when the bones in the dental arch are uneven or too sharp for a comfortable denture fit. A pre-prosthetic treatment will allow our oral surgeons to smooth out the bones to create a foundation for dentures. Each patient’s mouth is a different size or shape, which is why a consultation is very helpful to design a treatment plan for your pre-prosthetic surgery.
The Pre-Prosthetic Surgical Procedure
Dentures are designed to rest on the gums along the bony ridge that creates the dental arch. Sometimes, dentures can cause problems, such as slipping and/or discomfort, or require a replacement procedure if they do not fit correctly. A pre-prosthetic treatment is necessary to make sure that your dentures fit properly with the specific shape and size of your dental arch. Our oral surgeons can meet with you at either office for an oral exam and consultation to determine if pre-prosthetic surgery is the correct procedure for your smile.
Types of Pre-Prosthetic Oral Procedures
A few of the most common pre-prosthetic treatments used to secure a patient’s dental arch include the removal of excess bone or tissue, the reshaping of bone, or a bone ridge reduction procedure. Dr. Colarusso or Dr. Baran can perform each of these oral surgeries.
All of the pre-prosthetic surgeries performed by our oral surgeons are minor in-office procedures. If you have questions about the services we offer or scheduling a consultation, please browse our website or contact one of our offices. We look forward to meeting with you.
