A bone grafting procedure at Central Mass Oral Surgery is used to prevent further bone loss in a patient’s dental arch. We may recommend a bone graft to patients who have been missing their teeth for a long time. Drs. Colarusso, Connors, and Baran are skilled in performing bone grafting procedures at either of our offices in Leominster, MA, or Gardner, MA.
Our office staff is happy to assist you with scheduling an oral exam and consultation to set up a bone grafting treatment plan. Your consultation will allow our oral surgeons to answer questions and discuss treatment options including the use of anesthesia. Bone grafting is an excellent procedure to prepare your jaw for the placement of dental implants and prevent bone loss. Dental implants are one of the most routine tooth replacement procedures that our oral and maxillofacial surgeons can perform after a bone grafting operation.
Types of Bone Grafting Treatments
There are three main types of bone grafting procedures that are performed here at Central Mass Oral Surgery, and our team will review them in detail during your consultation to determine which is best for you. A bone graft is traditionally used to maintain the size and shape of the jaw bone following an extraction or to restore the jaw bone where a tooth has been missing for some time. This treatment provides a strong foundation for dental implant placement to restore your smile.
This procedure prevents bone loss from occurring after removing a tooth from your dental arch. Our oral surgeons can perform this treatment immediately after the tooth is extracted, while the jaw is still healthy and strong. This will prevent any bone loss while the tooth is missing. Once healed, we can place dental implants in a separate procedure to restore the missing tooth.
The sinuses are hollow cavities positioned above our upper molars and behind our cheeks. The bone separating this area from the mouth is typically very thin, making it difficult to place an implant securely. Oral surgeons routinely perform a bone grafting procedure called a sinus lift to create additional bone for successful implant placement.
This treatment addresses areas of the jaw where teeth are missing and are more susceptible to bone loss. Ridge augmentation allows our oral surgeons to re-create the structure of the bone, restoring balance to the jaw line and providing a platform for restoration. Restoring adequate jaw bone height and width increases the patient’s ability to place dental implants and restore their smile successfully.
